Format of the lessons

Spanish is used if not 100% in the class, then close to it. The teacher speaks in Spanish and the students are encouraged to do so too, in order to give the maximum possible exposure to the language.

The format of the lessons will vary: sometimes the focus will be on reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, sometimes it will be on grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary and other aspects of language learning.

Apart from the Spanish spoken in class, Meeting Point offers an exchange service, facilitating exchanges between students who are learning English and students who are learning Spanish.

Practice in listening is very important, and to ensure that you listen to a wide range of spoken Spanish, you will listen to cds and watch dvds.

From time to time the academy organizes a trip to the cinema, with students learning Spanish and English, which gives everyone the opportunity to chat afterwards and practice their language skills.

Reading activities in class will expose you to a wide range of different types of texts (newspaper articles, letters, short stories, advertisements, brochures, etc.). Texts are either skimmed or scanned quickly by each student, and then a discussion will take place, or they are read out loud so pronunciation can be practiced and honed. Students are encouraged as much as possible to read outside the school. We have up to date newspapers in Spanish that students can take home, as well as a comprehensive library of books in all languages that students can borrow.

Writing is generally done at home, as we like our classes to be active and dynamic. The teacher corrects the homework and hands it back in the next session, or sometimes one or more person’s work is used as an example, and is corrected all together in class.

As well as practicing the above skills, you will also work on your grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation in class, as these areas are vital in helping you improve your proficiency in Spanish.
